“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God which he bought with his own blood.” (Acts 20: 28)
Who are the Deacons?
Deacons are men and women members of the church who were asked to serve our congregation by the Nominating Committee. After being ordained and receiving training, deacons serve a three year term.
What do Deacons do?
Each Deacon is assigned a “shepherding group” of about 10 – 15 members with whom they connect and offer support and assistance upon request.
What is the mission of the Deacons?
The ministry of the Deacons of Warrenton Presbyterian Church is to pray faithfully, care for those in need, inspire the downtrodden, serve Christ and all people with love and humility, guided by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
Deacon Service projects include:
· Hosting the Deacon Tea, a spring fellowship event for shepherding groups
· Providing “welcome greeters” at the church door on Sunday mornings.
· Stocking the Visitor’s Welcome Table with relevant information for visitors and prospective members.
· Supporting the “Prayer Bear Ministry”, a church project to provide comfort to both members of our church and the community in times of crises.
· Distributing prayer shawls made by members of the Prayer Shawl Ministry.
· Providing gift Bibles for weddings, funerals, and new members.
· Supporting the Deacon’s Library, an on-site resource for deacons and their shepherding groups on topics such as grief, divorce, prayer and family dynamics.
· Ministering to shut-ins by sharing communion, delivering Christmas poinsettias and Easter lilies, raking leaves, and snow removal.
· Praying at weekly meetings.
